This is a really good vid. Lot of stuff I didn't know. Great stuff.
No surprise that there were problems. Hell, they had been together since teenagers, had girlfriends, wives and family moving into their thirties. It would have been a surprise if they stayed together. Looking at what they did in their solo years, it was a good move to break up. As for The White Album, I've always loved it, the variety, the quantity, the surprises and passion. Great stuff.
One of my faves for sure, but even back then, Paul's "granny music" was troubling to me. This was supposed to be a rock 'n roll band and crap like Rocky and Obla Di was a bad sign. By the time we got to Maxwell's Hammer, the end {thank god} was near.
To paraphrase Paul McCartney. It's The Beatles' White Album! Shut the bleep up.
12:42 by his pupils alone I can tell that this man is tripping balls
Who played fiddle on dont pass me by?
Jack Fallon
I know the other Beatles got sick of Yoko always lingering around like a really bad fart .
I've always loved The White Album.
I don’t think she was only drinking she was doing drugs !!!Open your f eyes ! Someone who does drugs love them. Ask a druggie.
Where was her husband ? Family ? They could have saved her. No dam excuse !!!!
Well it worked for me because the white album is one of my favorites
A compilation of b sides.
In North America, we were simply interested in good songs, well-recorded. This album--The Beatles--was of poor sound-quality and had oddball songs.
John’s personality had changed at this point. He was becoming increasingly grandiose. Sad. Makes me think of Paul’s “Get Back.”
No new content. Just a really annoying commentary.
Rocky Racoon and Barnacle Bill, are two songs that sum up this album, Just awful, George had one of his great songs Savoy Truffle, the only real rock song was Back in the USSR, Helter Skelter sounds as if everyone butt Ringo is strung out on Heroin and Hash!
Dude. AMPEX reel to reel tape machine...NOT 'Apex' lmfao... get your sh#%$t together man
Obla obla da bungalow bill Yuk 😎😎😎😎
The beatles were a bunch of satanists.
I have been a fan since their first single, but having just re-watched 'Magical Mystery Tour' (for the nth time) I can reply to Paul and say "No, it does not get better with every watch." But the music produced that year alone was awesome!
I love the fact a lot of commentators are of the opinion The Beatles were ‘on the way out’, ‘in decline’ and ‘heading downhill’ after the death of Brian Epstein … yet STILL made the ‘White Album’, ‘Let it Be’, ‘Abbey Road’ … winning an Academy award and, eventually, giving rise to the likes of ‘Imagine’, ‘All Things Must Pass’ and tracks like ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’, etc. It’s not unlike accusing Pink Floyd of ‘being shit’ after the loss of Syd Barratt … and ignoring ‘DSOM’, ‘WYWH’, ‘Animals’ & ‘The Wall’! Some people really have NO idea what they’re talking about. As Noel Gallagher one said (paraphrasing) … “the fact they produced such a body of work in just seven short years is nothing short of amazing”, adding “I’ve had longer fuckin’ holidays than that”. If you don’t like ‘em, fine. It doesn’t matter. Their contribution to popular music has been cemented in popular culture.🤔😉✌️🙏🤘🖖
A quick introduction to fan albums - few hit singles, experimental tape collages, silly lyrics, but there was a lot of FM airplay of whole sides back then.
Never heard of Magic Alex!
@ 2:30 I don't what your definition of personal problems is, but I would say that "pretty little policemen in a row" and "Should five percent appear too small Be thankful I don't take it all" refer to serious personal problems. I'm sure there are others I've missed.
I love this album, one of my favorite albums really.
Nightmare is commuting 2 hours each day to some shitty McJob or cubicle job with a crappy boss. Being paid millions to fart around in a studio for a month, to write songs for adoring fans, while having some tension, is not a "nightmare" in any way, shape, or form...
Doubl white is the best album they did
Gee, sounds like a jolly good disaster.
The only one affected by the nonsense in India was George.
This is good stuff, factual, footage well compiled, and linear. I of course do NOT opine on anything this band did musically, but to say my 77 year old mom remembered them well, and I new their basic history before I turned 6, along with maybe 2 chords on my sisters youth acoustic. Brought back memories to this aging boy at least. 1968 white album spawned the serial killing cult Manson families leader Charles Manson apocalyptic manifesto to counter culture, about the same time Roman Polanski was filming rosemarys baby in the building john lennon would later be murdered. His own wife Sharon tate was murdered by them while 9 months pregnant in his Hollywood hills home. Singer Rick James had opted not to stop by that very evening, and was later quoted as saying that cocaine, is one hell of a drug.😙
Could this Stag guy explain why Ringo's drum tone on the White album is so weird?
Very good Presentation , I have collected a lot of the old LP's :) QC
broke off like twenty opinions in first thirty seconds....."didn't care about clothes..." cuts to paul with notice-me red and yellow shoes...
You know your stuff. Well presented 👍🏻
Alex is an alchemist
It's the darkest album...and Charlie was right!!
I like most of the music on the White Album. The last thing the Beatles needed was George's suggestion to throw a religious hypocrite into the mix.
Who was the woman Paul brought into the studio? Maggie McGivern?
holy moly! look how dilated his eyes are 12:43
I remember reading an article years ago that said that the Beatles White Album was ironically the least Beatles-like album of all. I always had a great respect for George Martin (RIP), and class act that he was, he must have going through hell during this time. He was always loyal to the Beatles.
Thanks!
Much appreciated
The White Album was the beginning of the end for the Beatles because of the internal friction and stress going on with the band during the recording of the album but having said that this turned out to be a remarkable musical experience for the greatest band in the history of rock pop music I remember the first time I listened to it, it blew my mind, incredibly versatile one song different from the next there will never be anything like it again a timeless classic, the Beatles will never be forgotten!
Their best one
@mpemberton7760 5 days ago (edited) The White Album may not be the Beatles' best album, but it's my favorite because it's a sort of chaotic journey into the world of a band that was falling apart at the seams . The songs are tender and personal, wild and unrestrained, straight up rockers and straight up ballads, blues and country, intelligent and stupid, witty and ridiculous, sublime and heavy. They threw just about everything they could churn out into a musical stew and let it cook into a glorious mess of a double LP. That's why I love it!
@RogerPeet 4 days ago I remember buying The White Album, as soon as it came out. I was 12. Me and my brothers opened the album in my bedroom and played it on my little plastic record player. I was the most excited because my brothers were not into music, and I was the only one that played an instrument (alto-sax). Oh, and I saw The Beatles, Live on my 9th b-day ! Aug1965Portland OR The Beatles can do no wrong and I love everything about The White Album. I wasn't that upset when they broke up. They had given the World soo much, already. People grow and move on.

Nice film, unfortunately there are repeated references to Geoff Emerick, but while showing a picture of (other engineer, and later renowned producer) Ken Scott.
I have to say, I never found John Lennon's songs during the (later) Beatles' era as good as Paul's (before you get all worked up, keep reading), but here are some exceptions: Glass Onion (okay so it's also Paul, but sound way more like John), Day Tripper, Please please me, and yes, thankfully, She's so heavy. Only to name a few. I don't even know why I'm talking about John, maybe because he never got a smuc appreciation as he should have in the Beatles for his worth, but everyone knows he deserved it. The Beatles, if you're here watching this, you appreciate them, or you are about to. Guaranteed.
Even bigger nightmare having to listen to anything by them
What I found surprising is how long it took to make, and how many takes they'd do with each song. They were not afraid of work! For Beatles fans, the songs were from their favorite band, and yes they were a few forgettable ones, lol. I agree with George when he said "Oh Blah Di Oh Blah Da" was the biggest piece of rubbish the Beatles ever made!
It's great, it's the diversity.
